Information Collection and Use
Parabon Computation, Inc., collects information from individuals when they use our Web site and/or download and use our software for participation in our service as a provider of computational resources. Parabon is the sole owner of information collected on this Web site and by its software. We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others or use it in ways different from what is disclosed in this statement.
To use the Frontier Compute Engine, a provider must download the software from our Web site and install it on their computer. Doing so does not require the user to provide any contact information. Once installed, the Frontier Compute Engine will automatically participate in Parabon's provider network.
To receive credit for participating, a provider must open a Parabon account, which involves an online registration process that requires minimal contact information (such as name, email, and postal address). Similar registration processes are also used at various points on our Web site when users of the site request information on, or subscription to, particular services in which they are interested.
A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's hard drive containing information about the user. Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site. Once the user closes their browser, the cookie simply terminates.
We do use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not associated with personally identifiable information.
The Frontier Compute Engine is a software program that Web site visitors have the option to download to their hard drives. If a visitor downloads and installs the Frontier Compute Engine, they become a "Provider" of Internet computing capability. This program is used to process tasks that Parabon delegates to the Provider's computer.
The Frontier Compute Engine is labeled with a unique identifier that is associated with a Provider's account. This identifier is used even when a provider has elected to remain anonymous at the time of registration. The Frontier Compute Engine collects general use and time information from a Provider's computer. We use this information to measure a Provider's availability, activity, and overall participation. Usage of the software is in no way linked to any personal information on a Provider's computer. If a provider exits the Frontier Compute Engine, they will not be able to receive or process tasks assigned by Parabon and thus will not receive any computation credit.
If you download or receive our software via one of our affiliate or partner programs, whether by CD, web download or otherwise, we may share your personal information and other information that is collected by our Frontier Compute Engine software (as described above) with that affiliate or partner. That affiliate or partner may combine that information with other information it has, and use such information to calculate credits and for other purposes.
This Web site contains links to other sites. Parabon Computation, Inc. is not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites. We encourage users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of other Web sites that collect personal information. Parabon's privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this Web site.
If a Web site user subscribes to any of our newsletters, we ask for contact information, such as name and email address. A user may unsubscribe to our newsletter(s) at any time; to do so, please see the section titled "Choice/Opt-out" below.
Parabon takes every precaution to protect users' information. All information submitted through this Web site is protected both on and off-line.
All our users' information is restricted in our offices. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific task (for example, a customer service representative) are granted access to personal information. If an employee leaves his or her desk, that information is protected by a password-protected screen-saver. Upon return to his or her desk, an employee must reenter the password to access the information. All employees are trained and kept up-to-date on security and privacy practices. Finally, servers storing personal information are kept in a secure and access controlled environment. If you have any questions about security at our Web site or company, email:support@ComputeAgainstCancer.org.
Surveys & Contests
From time to time our site will include sweepstakes or surveys. Participation in either is completely voluntary; the user can opt in, or out, from their account pages. To participate in the sweepstakes a user must provide additional contact information that is not normally required.
Survey information will only be used for purposes of monitoring or improving this Web site and Parabon's software and services.
All new Providers receive a welcome email. Established members may occasionally receive information on products, services, special deals, and newsletters. Out of respect for the privacy of our users, they may choose to not receive these types of communications. Please see section titled "Choice/Opt-out" below.
Site and Service Updates
Parabon sends users of our software periodic upgrade announcements. Users may choose not to upgrade their software. However, if a system-wide upgrade is not backwardly compatible, choosing not to upgrade could make users ineligible for subsequent participation in the Parabon provider network.
We communicate via email with our Web site users to provide requested services and information about their accounts. Also, periodic announcements may be displayed in our software's display window, although this window can be configured to always remain closed.
Correction/Updating Personal Information
If a user's personal information changes or if a user no longer desires our service, we have provided a way to edit that users information, or delete any and all software associated with that users account. This can be done once the provider has logged into their account, or by emailing our Customer Support department.
Users of our Web site are given the opportunity to 'opt out' of having their information used for purposes not directly related to our software by running the Frontier Compute Engine anonymously. This can be done during the installation process simply by clicking on the as an anonymous user link at the bottom of the registration page, and not opening an account with Parabon. If you choose this option, Parabon will not be able to credit you for any work performed.
Furthermore, users of our Web site have the opportunity to opt out of receiving emails or other communications from Parabon by sending an email to support@ComputeAgainstCancer.org.
Email Links and Forms
Parabon offers email links and support forms, located in various areas of the Web site, to allow you to contact us directly with any questions or comments you may have.
We try to reply to each message promptly. This information is used to respond directly to your questions or comments. We may also file your comments to improve the site and program, or review and discard the information. Your personal information is not shared with third parties.
We may disclose personal information when required by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary in order to conform and comply with the edicts of law.
