Downloading the Compute Engine

If the download does not start within a few seconds, click here.

The Compute Engine download and installation takes place in two parts. The first file is quite small, and even with a slow modem connection, the download should only take a few minutes. Once the first file is downloaded and the Compute Engine has established a secure connection with the Frontier server, it will automatically download additional components. It is not necessary for you to wait for the second download to complete. While it is taking place, you can use your computer and Internet connection to check email and view Web sites. Even if your Internet connection is interrupted, the download will continue automatically the next time you go online. But, to ensure the download and installation is completed during this session, you may want to stay connected to the Internet until it is done. This will take about 30 minutes with a 56K modem.

Installation Instructions:

  1. Before beginning the installation, close all of your Windows applications except your browser.

  2. If the download has not started after a few seconds, click the "click here" link above to start the download process.

  3. If you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer:
On the File Download dialog box, you have two options; Select the first option, "Run this program from its current location," and click "OK."
Or, if you are using Netscape:
Save the file to your desktop, then double click on it to begin installation.
  4. The installation Wizard will open and guide you through the initial installation process. Simply read each dialog box, make the appropriate selections, and click "Next." In most cases, appropriate default selections will already be checked.

    1. When the "Compute Engine Options" dialog box opens, the Wizard will automatically configure the Compute Engine to the most common settings. Feel free to adjust the settings to best fit your computer.

    2. When the "Choose Type of Internet Connection" dialog box opens, if you have a LAN connection and are behind a firewall, you may need to enter proxy server information. To do this, click the Proxy Settings button. Otherwise, click Next.
  5. When the initial installation is complete, click finish. The Compute Engine will automatically download additional components, informing you of its progress as it proceeds.

Current system requirements: Windows NT, 2000, or XP; 600 MHz processor or faster; 128 MB of RAM or more.
