How can you help?

Download Frontier Compute Engine

You Have A Precious Resource

If you have a personal computer, you can empower researchers, scientists, engineers, and businesses to reach new heights of productivity. By becoming a Parabon provider, you share a precious but often wasted resource—your computer's unused time—with the scientific and business communities.

Using strict security protocols, Parabon harnesses your idle computer time, bundles it with the power of other users' around the globe and then provides it as unprecedented computing power for business, science, and medical research.

How Does It Work?

Similar to a screen saver, the Frontier Compute Engine operates only when your computer is not being used and works on tasks requested from Parabon's server.

The Compute Engine never interferes with your ability to use your own computer. Move your mouse or touch a key and the Frontier Compute Engine vanishes—until the next time your computer isn't being used.

With the Frontier Compute Engine, you put your computer to good use all the time®.

Donate Your Computer's Time

Parabon is running computations for nonprofit organizations, including several that benefit cancer patients.

Is It Safe? What About Viruses?

Using the Frontier Compute Engine to harness your computer's unused time is safer than surfing the Net. From the ground up, we designed our software to insulate the execution of Parabon tasks from the rest of your computer. Your data and programs are safe with the Frontier Compute Engine.

Before a task can even run on a computer, Frontier verifies its integrity by making sure it came from Parabon's server. This verification process is similar to using a security code to access a building. Furthermore, Frontier prohibits tasks from making any network connections except to the Parabon server.

To insulate tasks from any other programs or data on your computer, Frontier uses Java™, the same technology your browser uses when visiting many Web sites. Because Frontier only runs tasks that are locked within this impenetrable barrier, using Frontier is more secure than surfing the Web.

To find out more about our security measures, read our security policy.

Will the Frontier Compute Engine Interfere with my screen saver?

No. You can run the Frontier Compute Engine on your computer and still use a screen saver. Keep in mind, however, that some screen savers use more processing power than others—specially those with animated graphics—thus leaving the engine less power available for tasks.

To maximize the amount of work the engine can perform, deactivate your screen saver or use one that has low CPU usage.

What's The Catch?

When an innovation like this comes along, it's hard to believe that everything is on the level. But it is. Parabon is simply harnessing a resource that's always been available, but never used before. It's a win-win; providers will get rewarded for unused computer time that normally would go to waste, and clients (organizations, laboratories, teaching centers, and businesses) can access more power than they've ever had before.
